In today's machining applications, end mills are widely used for profile milling, tracer milling, face milling, plunging and many other milling operations that can be done using the right milling cutters.
Carbide milling inserts are mainly applied in precision machining of various metals like steel, carbon steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys and other non-ferrous metals. Nowadays, most carbide inserts are manufactured with a mixture of tungsten carbide (WC), titanium carbide (TiC) and cobalt (Co). Tungsten and titanium carbide as the hard particles give very high hardness for insert, while the cobalt generally makes the insert harder to break.
